Let there be life.
Let there be life.
Recreated from a poster Brian made for his American publisher, the sun’s 618 rays are made from sections taken from the pages of dozens of his books, screen prints & paintings. The original sun Brian made was composed mostly of triangles cut out from the pages of a ton of magazines and a few of his own previously published books. That original artwork, sadly, is lost and the poster in my possession is sun-bleached and in poor condition. I had to remake it. What better, I thought, than to only work with bits from my dad’s artworks? A sort of retrospective piece through which all his work came together to form his favourite star… our sun.
Brian loved the sun. Who doesn’t you might say. Growing up in Yorkshire in the 30s “where everything was grey” as he said, he pined for light, colour, more colour and sunshine. We were lucky. Becoming successful with his quite revolutionary first 16 books, we got to leave London. One summer day in 1971, Brian, four kids and their mum piled into the English racing green Daimler V8. Driving gloves on, pedal to the metal and southward bound we roared. Destination: The South of France… Mediterranean magic… colour and sunshine ! The one he adored and, thereafter, never left.
Also available as an in-house print in 2 versions & 2 sizes, measuring 50x50 or 60x60cm - the bigger the better in my opinion !
One on black, not quite: Backlit with a trillion sister stars...night !
One on white. Pure, graphic, elegant... day !
